Introduction

Turkey is a strategic gateway between Europe, Asia, and the Middle East. Its trade fair scene has grown rapidly, with world‑class events like Yapı Istanbul, WIN Eurasia, MAKTEK, Plast Eurasia, and IFAT Istanbul attracting thousands of international exhibitors every year.

But exhibiting in a new country comes with challenges: unfamiliar logistics, customs regulations, language barriers, and finding a stand builder you can trust.

The portfolio reflects exhibition projects designed and delivered by the same team now represented by Maher Design under Maher’s leadership, including work for foreign country pavilions and Turkish brands. This guide shares what we’ve learned.

1. Why Exhibit in Turkey?

Turkey offers unique advantages for international brands:

  • Strategic location– Reach buyers from Europe, the Middle East, Central Asia, and North Africa within a few flight hours.

  • Strong industries– World‑leading fairs in construction, textiles, energy, medical, logistics, and signage.

  • Modern venues– Istanbul Expo Center, TÜYAP Fair and Congress Center, and Antalya’s Anfas Center are purpose‑built for large‑scale events.

  • Cost‑effective– Competitive stand building and logistics costs compared to Western Europe.

Top Turkish fairs for international exhibitors:

  • WIN Eurasia (automation & robotics)

  • MAKTEK Eurasia (machine tools)

  • Plast Eurasia (plastics & rubber)

  • KOMATEK (construction machinery)

  • Growtech (greenhouse & agriculture)

  • Yapı Istanbul (construction & building materials)

See our full Exhibitions directory for dates, venues, and key stats.

2. Shell Scheme vs. Bespoke Stand – What’s Right for You?

Most Turkish fair organizers offer two options:

  • Design — Pre‑fabricated, identical to neighbors; Unique, tailored to your brand

  • Assembly — Done by organizer; Managed by your stand builder

  • Lead time — Minimal (weeks); 6–12 weeks

  • Cost — Lower per sqm; Higher, but better ROI for branding

  • Best for — Small displays, budget‑conscious; Premium brands, large products, country pavilions

Our recommendation:If your goal is to impress buyers, launch a new product, or host private meetings, invest in a bespoke stand. It signals professionalism and commitment – and generates more qualified leads.

3. Finding the Right Stand Builder in Turkey

Not all stand builders are equal. Look for these qualities:

Experience with international clients– They understand language barriers, time zones, and cultural differences.
Production planning and coordination– Ask how production planning, quality review, and project coordination will be managed.
Turnkey service– One point of contact for design, fabrication, shipping, customs, and on‑site assembly.
Portfolio of past fairs– Ask for case studies at the same venue or similar industry events.
References– Speak to past international clients.

The portfolio includes exhibition stand projects for international brands at Aluminium Düsseldorf, Medica, and Turkish trade fairs, coordinated through a single project contact.

4. Logistics & Customs – What You Need to Know

Bringing equipment, products, or promotional materials into Turkey is straightforward, but planning is essential.

Temporary Import for Exhibitions

Most exhibition goods enter Turkey under temporary import rules:

  • No customs duties if goods are re‑exported after the fair.

  • You need a ATA Carnet(international customs document) – your stand builder or freight forwarder can arrange it.

  • Work with a licensed customs broker who specializes in trade fairs.

Shipping Timeline

Common mistake:Leaving customs clearance to the last minute. Always add buffer days – Turkish customs can be efficient, but unexpected document checks happen.

5. Timeline for a Bespoke Stand Project in Turkey

Here is a realistic timeline from first contact to dismantle:

  • Contact stand builder — 3–4 months before fair

  • Finalize design & materials — 8–10 weeks before

  • Ship goods from your country — 4–6 weeks before

  • Customs clearance — 3–7 days before

  • On‑site assembly — 1–3 days before opening

Need a faster timeline? Ask us about expedited options – we have built stands in as little as 4 weeks.

6. Budgeting for Your Exhibition Stand in Turkey

Costs vary by size, complexity, materials, and location. Here is a rough guide:

  • 12–16 weeks — Initial consultation, budget approval, site visit (or virtual)

  • 10–12 weeks — Concept design, 3D renders, material selection

  • 8–10 weeks — Design approval, technical drawings, deposit payment

  • 6–8 weeks — Production planning and coordination begins

  • 4–6 weeks — Logistics planning, ATA Carnet arranged

  • 2–4 weeks — Shipping to Turkey, customs clearance

  • 1 week — On‑site assembly, final touches

  • During fair — Daily maintenance, on‑call support

  • After fair — Dismantling, storage (if needed), or shipping to next event

All prices exclude VAT and shipping from your home country (which varies by origin).

Hidden costs to ask about:

  • Electricity connection fees

  • Extra cleaning during the fair

  • Overtime labour for assembly

  • Waste disposal after dismantling

Pro tip:Request a clear project-scope quote– so logistics, assembly, and dismantling responsibilities are agreed during planning.

7. Common Mistakes International Exhibitors Make in Turkey

Assuming “shell scheme” is enough– Most buyers expect a professional, branded environment. A shell scheme blends into the crowd.
Not budgeting for Turkish VAT– Your stand builder should clarify VAT rules (often reclaimable).
Ignoring local holidays– Avoid shipping during national holidays (e.g., Republic Day on 29 October).
Using a non‑specialist freight forwarder– Exhibition logistics require temporary import expertise. Use a trade‑fair forwarder.
Translating materials at the last minute– Turkish buyers appreciate signage in Turkish and English. Plan translation 4‑6 weeks ahead.

  • Clear scope and budget planning– Costs, venue requirements, and delivery responsibilities are reviewed during planning.
